Will return when I can type two-armed again. Until then, interact with other Tomorrowlands readers in the forums; check out some inane babblings in my Livejournal if you haven't already (this will remain my journal -- my LJ account is for site updates, inconsequential bits, and items for an LJ-specific audience); or ... uh ... write some TTU fiction for me to cheer me up. I'll try to keep you all updated as the healing progresses, but I expect to spend very little time at the computer until the cast comes off. (Everything I'm typing is with my left hand. It's extremely uncomfortable to position my right arm to reach the keyboard and nigh-impossible to mouse.) Check the "Broken Arm Update" thread in the forum for the blow-by-blow.
May 30, 2002 ... The cast is off! I have two arms again! I came home yesterday from BayCon basically paralyzed with depression. That lasted for all of about 24 hours, thankfully. I cannot properly emphasize how significant the removal of the cast was to that sudden upswing: I am no longer broken. Merely broke. There's even promising news there. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, a local newspaper, is hiring copy editors. I've been mulling over a career change for a while, given the continuing volatility of the tech sector; and this seems like the right opportunity at the right time. The best part is that it's a job I'm qualified for -- I'm so used to walking into interviews knowing I can do the job but finding myself unable to offer more than promises because my work history is so scattershot. Anyway, I'll brush up my resume and see what transpires. There is ... other stuff going on in my life right now. I don't know how to write about it, yet, but I hope to at least ease back into journaling. Perhaps I can get back on my feet with some retrospectives or some creative tangents while I sort everything out in my head. At any rate, welcome back to ... well, as normal as it gets.
