So: This is where you can read about me, get a generic but non-misleading portrait of This Random Dude On The Internet as a human being, file me into a little mental category and let my life drift into obscurity.
Of course, if you're an employer, you're probably here for more than that -- to see whether I'm naive enough to commit the cardinal sin of exposing anything potentially freaky about myself on the Internet. If so, did you read the "fairly thought-provoking" link above?
Consider: When did we collectively decide that having the strength of character to say who we are, and stand by it, is a bad thing?
Eh. Be that as it may, there is a rest of the site to lurk through; you're just going to Google it anyway. But if you'd rather stay here and meander through some blasé, read on.
I run Tomorrowlands.org. I enjoy it.
I live in Grass Valley, Calif., with wife Kady, two cats and f15h. I just finished a lengthy hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. To chase that dream, I quit my job at the Auburn Journal -- where I was a page designer and copy editor. Between that and my Web work, I seem to have made words my life both on and off the clock. Quite a career arc for someone who graduated college with a math degree.
I am blessed with not one but several families who love me. One of them shares my last name.
I write stories, occasional poetry, draw art, am an amateur photographer (also see my recent fireworks photo essay), hack on my website, etc.
"Etcetera" is so cliched, but my interests really are that broad -- mathematics to philosophy to all of the creative outlets mentioned above. Plus hiking, of course.
Whoever relies on the Tao in governing men doesn't try to force issues or defeat enemies by force of arms. For every force there is a counterforce. Violence, even well intentioned, always rebounds upon oneself.(Tao Te Ching, Chap. 30)
These days, I'm a political agnostic -- recovering ex-Libertarian, though I still agree with many of their ideas.
The Master does his job and then stops. He understands that the universe is forever out of control, and that trying to dominate events goes against the current of the Tao. Because he believes in himself, he doesn't try to convince others. Because he is content with himself, he doesn't need others' approval. Because he accepts himself, the whole world accepts him.(Tao Te Ching, Chap. 30)

No, I'm not actually a Taoist. I just happened to be in a very
Taolike philosophical mood when I wrote this page. :-)
Actually, you can check out a close approximation to my religious affiliations here, although you're far more likely to gain actual insight into the way I live my life if you spend time perusing my online journal.
